A Revolutionary Approach to Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
An Overview of Advanced Techniques for Spinal Relief
IIntroduction
The NexGen Spine Center specializes in advanced, patented minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) procedures. These innovative techniques are designed to treat a wide range of spinal conditions while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues, avoiding spinal fusions or hardware implantation, and enabling patients to provide real-time feedback during surgery under local anesthesia and conscious sedation.
NextGen Spinal Techniques
These techniques encompass a diverse array of procedures tailored to address specific spinal conditions in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions. Each procedure is performed incrementally, targeting one vertebral level at a time, with extensive preoperative analysis to isolate the exact source of pain. Below is an overview of the key procedures:

Outpatient Setting

Our surgeries are performed in an ambulatory surgical center, enabling patients to walk within hours and return home the same day or shortly after.

No General Anesthesia: Procedures use local anesthesia and conscious sedation, allowing patients to communicate with surgeons and confirm pain relief during surgery.
Incremental Approach: Surgeries address one spinal level at a time to ensure focused treatment and avoid unnecessary procedures.
NextGen Spine Center avoids spinal fusions, artificial discs, or hardware unless essential, unlike many MISS providers.

Conditions Treated
The NextGen Spine Techniques are effective for a range of spinal conditions, including:
Herniated or bulging discs
Spinal stenosis
Sciatica
Degenerative disc disease
Spondylolisthesis
Facet joint syndrome
Failed back surgery syndrome
Foraminal stenosis
Chronic neck and back pain

Endoscopic Discectomy
Purpose: Treats herniated or bulging discs causing nerve compression, sciatica, or radiculopathy.
Procedure: A small incision (less than a quarter-inch) is made, and an endoscope is inserted to visualize the affected disc..
Conditions Addressed: Herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica.
Laminectomy/Laminotomy
Purpose: Relieves pressure on the spinal cord or nerves caused by spinal stenosis or bone spurs.
Procedure: A small portion of the lamina (bony arch of the vertebra) is removed through a tiny incision using specialized tools to widen the spinal canal and decompress nerves without destabilizing the spine.
Conditions Addressed: Spinal stenosis, spondylosis, facet joint syndrome.
Foraminotomy
Purpose: Enlarges the neural foramen (opening where nerve roots exit the spine) to alleviate nerve compression.
Procedure: Using endoscopic guidance, bone or tissue obstructing the foramen is removed through a small incision, preserving spinal stability.
Conditions Addressed: Foraminal stenosis, pinched nerves, radiculopathy.
Facet Joint Procedures (Rhizotomy or Facet Ablation)
Purpose: Treats pain from arthritic or damaged facet joints.
Procedure: A laser or radiofrequency tool is used to ablate or disable the nerves supplying the painful facet joint, providing long-term pain relief without affecting spinal mobility.
Conditions Addressed: Facet joint syndrome, degenerative joint disease.
Hardware Removal Surgery
Purpose: Removes previously implanted spinal hardware from failed back surgeries causing pain or complications.
Procedure: Patented instruments are utilized to carefully extract hardware through minimal incisions, avoiding the extensive tissue damage of traditional open surgery.
Conditions Addressed: Failed back surgery syndrome, hardware-related pain.
Percutaneous Discectomy
Purpose: Addresses disc-related pain without open surgery.
Procedure: A small probe is inserted through a tiny incision to remove or shrink damaged disc tissue, often using laser or mechanical tools to decompress nerves.
Conditions Addressed: Degenerative disc disease, herniated discs.
Decompression Procedures
Purpose: Relieves nerve or spinal cord compression from various causes.
Procedure: Techniques like micro-decompression or endoscopic decompression are used to remove bone spurs, thickened ligaments, or other compressive structures through small incisions, guided by advanced imaging.
Conditions Addressed: Spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease.
